The last thing anyone expects when they are rising with their family is that a car accident will occur and cause injuries or a fatality. However, last month we learned about a Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in northeast Philly that killed two men and injured several other people.

This Was A Tragic Case

It seems like we hear about Hit-and-Run Accidents every day when we turn on the news. In this case, police have arrested Shekhroz Mamaatkulov. He is facing counts of involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, and aggravated assault by vehicle.

Mamaatkulov was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with an SUV and another vehicle. Those two vehicles then struck three more cars.

Juan Rivera, 50, was in the SUV with his 48-year-old passenger, Carmen Ruiz. They were both killed in the crash as they were heading home from attending a family birthday party.

Police found Mamaatkulov in a hospital in New Jersey and arrested him.

We know that the roadways can be dangerous. The investigation into this crash is ongoing and we do not yet know if alcohol or drugs played a role. What we do know is that, for the latest reporting year in Pennsylvania, there were more than 128,000 vehicle crashes reported. Out of those crashes, there were:

  • More than 80,000 injuries
  • 1,137 crash fatalities

While most Vehicle Crashes resulted in minor injuries or only property damage, it is not uncommon for us to represent clients who sustain the following in the aftermath of a crash:

  • Spinal Cord Injuries (with possible paralysis)
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Internal organ damage/internal bleeding
  • Broken or dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations or Amputations

Out of the more than 80,000 crash injuries in PA for the latest year, more than 4,000 were suspected as being serious. These injuries can lead to massive medical bills that families will struggle to afford if insurance does not cover them.

We also need to consider the Hidden Costs of these incidents, things like lost income, rehabilitation, as well as emotional and psychological damages.
