We have learned that a pregnant woman who was involved in a crash with a suspected drunk driver has given birth. The crash happened on February 4 at around 2:40 a.m. at the intersection of Haverford and Overbook avenues.
Authorities say that a man and a pregnant woman were in a Chevy pickup truck at a red light. When they began going through the intersection, a Lexus sped through and struck them. Paramedics took the woman to the hospital where she gave birth to the baby. The child is currently listed in critical condition. The mother and the male driver of the truck are in stable condition.
The 56-year-old driver of the Lexus was arrested for suspicion of DUI and driving with a Suspended License.
At the Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin, P.C., we know that there are so many dangers in and around the city roadways, but perhaps none is more deadly than drunk drivers. If you need a DUI Lawyer in Philadelphia, we want to help you recover the compensation you deserve.
What Is Going On?
There is an entire section of Pennsylvania’s annual Department of Transportation report devoted to alcohol-related crashes. These crashes are an unfortunate reality across this state and the country.
Did you know that 26% of the total traffic fatalities in Pennsylvania are the result of alcohol-involved crashes?
This is a disproportionate amount of fatalities for one cause. Those who are driving impaired often drive at high rates of speed and sometimes never even slow down before an impact. These crashes have devastating consequences.
For the latest reporting year, there were 10,346 alcohol-involved crashes across Pennsylvania – 293 people were killed as a result and thousands more injured. It is not uncommon for us to see the following injuries in the aftermath of these crashes:
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Traumatic Brain Injuries
- Internal bleeding
- Internal organ damage
- Broken and dislocated bones
- Severe lacerations
The cost of treating these injuries can reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. If a victim needs long-term rehabilitation, they may not be able to work and earn an income will be impacted, severely limiting a person’s ability to support themselves and their family.
Drunk drivers are not the only cause of Accidents in Pennsylvania, but they are a major source of harm. Far too many families here are left dealing with the aftermath and we hope the number of fatalities and injuries decreases with each new year.
