Last week on I-95, a 34-year-old man was driving his Acura southbound in the early morning hours. He has three women and one man inside the vehicle with him. For reasons yet to be determined by police, the driver stopped the car in the right lane of the highway. That was when they were struck by a large Eighteen-Wheeler.

A 19-year-old woman in the back seat died from her injuries while another 19-year-old woman fell out of the vehicle and was struck by an SUV traveling down the road. She also died from her injuries.

The SUV fled the scene. Police are still looking for the driver. The other passengers and the driver of the Acura sustained minor injuries and the driver of the eighteen-wheeler was not hurt.

What Happens On The Roadways?

While we know you do not spend your time thinking about getting into an accident, you know it is a possibility. In Pennsylvania, we know that there were 128,188 crashes reported during the latest year of data available. Out of those crashes, there were:

  • 1,137 fatalities
  • 80,612 people injured

When it comes to crashes involving driver error in Pennsylvania, there are a few factors that stand out. Speed-related crashes lead the way when it comes to both the number of accidents in the state and the number of fatalities caused. Other major causes of accidents include:

    • Those who choose to Drive While Impaired By Drugs or Alcohol
    • Proceeding without clearance
    • Making an improper turn
    • Distracted drivers focused on their phones or other devices
    • Illegal passing
    • Driving too closely
    • Drowsy drivers

When another driver’s negligence causes injuries, they need to be held accountable and their insurance companies need to pay a fair settlement amount to those who are suffering. Often, though, that is not what happens.

Why should a car crash victim have to suffer because of a mistake made by someone else? Injuries from car accidents can become tremendously expensive, especially if a person is unable to work while they recover.
