wrongful death

On January 5, Matthew Oropeza took his two dogs to the Gold Star Park in South Philadelphia. Like he usually did, he let them run unleashed. This did not sit well with Drew Justice who, along with his fiancée, were walking their dog on the outside of the park.

According to statements made to law enforcement, Justice told Oropeza to put his dogs on leashes.

“What did you say?” a witness says Oropeza responded. “Say it to my face.”

When Justice entered the park Oropeza approached him. Oropeza admits to punching Justice then watching him fall and hit his head. Witnesses say that Oropeza then left the scene. When police arrived, they found someone trying to perform CPR on Justice. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

At the Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin, P.C., we know that many people do not think about violence becoming a wrongful death case. In fact, there are many ways in which these cases arise. If you need a Philadelphia Wrongful Death Lawyer, call us today.

How Does Wrongful Death Occur?

Matthew Oropeza has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and can face up to five years in prison. What many people do not realize is that wrongful death lawsuits often run in conjunction or after a criminal case against someone. Violent acts are one of the common ways in which we see wrongful death cases arise.

When we talk about wrongful death, we mean that someone else’s negligence or willful act has caused someone else to lose their life. Individuals, companies, groups, or agencies can all face wrongful death lawsuits.

There are other common ways in which these cases arise and we will list some of those today. Please know that this is not a complete list. Each case is different and you should always speak with an attorney before making any decisions.

  1. Car Accidents
  2. Workplace Accidents
  3. Defective Products
  4. Animal Attacks
  5. Pedestrian Accidents
  6. Bicycle Crashes
  7. Medical Malpractice

After someone dies unexpectedly, their families are often left trying to hold the pieces together. If the person killed was the main income earner for a family, there can be a sense of panic as family members scramble to make ends meet.

How is it fair that a family is put into financial jeopardy due to the actions of another person?
