Let’s be honest, no one, except perhaps their employees and owners, is a huge fan of tow truck companies. Walking out of a restaurant after a night in the city only to find that their vehicle has been loaded up by a tow truck driver who has been patiently waiting for you to park in the wrong spot can certainly ruin a nice evening.

Undoubtedly, the tow truck driver is just simply doing his or her job and the vehicle probably shouldn’t have been parked there in the first place. However, there are certain situations in which your car could have been towed illegally.

Having your car towed can be a huge burden and costly expense. Fortunately, there are rules and remedies to help protect your rights from being wrongfully towed.

It is a horrible feeling to return to where you parked your vehicle to find it no longer there. Most likely, your initial reaction is that your car has been stolen; that you have been the victim of a crime.

But oftentimes, you are actually the one who has committed the offense. If you have parked in a tow away zone, you will need to determine who has your vehicle, and what is required of you to secure its release.

Most of the time your vehicle will have been towed by the Philadelphia Parking Authority. If this is the case, then you will need to contact the PPA to confirm your car’s whereabouts.

It is possible, though less likely that the police towed your vehicle (as this is typically only done in the case of an accident). Regardless, to get back your vehicle you will need to provide appropriate paperwork in the form of: proof of payment/adjudication of towing and storage charges, ID, insurance, and registration.

If you believe your vehicle has been unlawfully towed, or would simply prefer the assistance of counsel to retrieve your vehicle, call The Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin, P.C. to help.

They Booted My Car!

Though it is not as upsetting as finding your vehicle missing, no one is ever happy to find their car has been booted by the city. Suddenly you find yourself unable to drive and in relative desperation to have these foreign objects removed from your car immediately.

Well, in this instance such motivation is a good thing, as you need exercise relative haste in this matter because you have only 72 hours from the time the car was booted to reach resolution before your vehicle is towed.

But why was your car booted in the first place? As opposed to most instances of towing, which are related to an immediate parking offense, your vehicle will be booted due to your neglect over a period of time in the form of Unpaid Parking and/or Red Light Tickets.

Once you have three or more unpaid tickets, the PPA and Philadelphia police will be more than happy to boot your vehicle. You will need to pay the underlying fines, any associated penalties, and a $150 boot fee to have the boots removed.

If you require assistance managing either of these problems or fighting outstanding Tickets, call The Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin, P.C. today for help.
