We know that we bring you plenty of statistics about vehicle accidents in and around Philadelphia on a regular basis. We may seem like a broken record, but it is important that you understand the dangers around the city so you can better protect yourself and your family.

Now, we have even more data that even caught us off guard – police say they too nearly 29,000 hit-and-run reports in 2017 and 2018.

One top law enforcement officer says that there is a “hit-and-run culture” that has spread throughout the city that cannot be tolerated. Police are overwhelmed with taking reports and then trying to track down suspects. Sometimes, these cases take up an officer’s entire day. This is time they could be using to patrol.

At The Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin, P.C., we know that hit-and-run accidents cause harm to so many people in the city each year. These types of accidents, along with others, often cause significant injuries.

Scary Hit And Run Numbers

Authorities say that the vast majority of hit-and-run crashes result in only property damage, but there were many that had serious consequences. In the last two years, 24 people have lost their lives due to these accidents.

State Senator Art Haywood is going to represent legislation to create harsher penalties for those who flee the scene of an accident. He wants to work closely with police to figure out the best solutions.

The city is working on technological options by engineering safer solutions in areas that see the majority of Hit and Run crashes.

Overall Statistics Throughout Pennsylvania, the Department of Transportation tells us that there were 128,188 crashes reported during the latest reporting year. Out of those, 1,137 people lost their lives and 80,612 were injured.

These injuries, whether from hit-and-run crashes or not, result in harm to passengers in other vehicles, Motorcyclists Accident, Bicyclists Accident, and Pedestrians Accident. Serious injuries often mean that a person spends significant time in the hospital and has to miss work.

If someone else’s negligence is the reason for a person’s injuries, they need to be held accountable. We see far too many crashes caused by distracted drivers, those who are impaired, and drivers who ignore traffic laws.
