When you are out walking around the city, whether for a leisurely stroll, for some exercise, or to get to the store, you should not have to worry about getting Struck by a Vehicle. Unfortunately, pedestrian accidents happen all the time in our area. Worse still, many of them are hit-and-run incidents. Last month, a hit-and-run driver struck and critically injured a North Philadelphia pedestrian. At The Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin, P.C., our Philadelphia Pedestrian Accident Attorneys want to talk about that case today.

What Happened in This Incident?

On August 21, a Pedestrian was Struck while crossing Broad Street at Somerset Street. He was struck by a black Ford traveling northbound at the time, and the driver of the Ford fled the scene. The pedestrian who was struck was taken to Temple University Hospital and was listed in critical condition with blunt force trauma to his entire body.

The driver that left the man critically wounded reported the crash to police a few days later. Officers responded and confiscated the vehicle as evidence. As of this writing, no charges have been filed in the case.

These Incidents Can Be Detrimental

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation keeps track of annual pedestrian incidents for each year across the commonwealth. During the latest reporting year in PA, there were over 4,000 pedestrian crashes. Out of those, there were:

  • 150 fatalities
  • 4,106 injuries

The reality is that nearly every pedestrian crash causes an injury or a fatality. Pedestrians are very vulnerable to injuries. They have no protection from the force of a vehicle slamming into them and often suffer two injury-causing impacts – one with a vehicle and one with the ground.

It is not uncommon for our Philadelphia Pedestrian Accident Lawyers to handle clients with the following injuries after a crash:

  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Bone fractures
  • Loss of or damage to a bodily organ
  • Dismemberment or Amputation
  • Significant disfigurement
  • Other injuries that inhibit a person’s daily activities

Victims of pedestrian crash often need extensive medical care that can become costly. If they are unable to work while they recover, the financial livelihood could be put in jeopardy.
