Police are saying that women and her two young children were in a parked car when they were struck by a driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The crash happened in West Philadelphia on South 52nd Street.

The woman in her twenties and her two children, one a five-year-old and the other a toddler, were all taken to an area hospital. They were listed in stable condition.

At the Law Offices of Greg Prosmushkin, P.C., we are grateful that nobody was seriously hurt in this incident, but we know it could have been much worse. Drunk drivers pose a threat to everyone’s safety. If you need a Lawyer, you can count on us to be by your side.

Can Be Deadly For Those Sharing The Road

Almost everyone experiences a vehicle crash in their lifetime. While most Car Accidents involve only property damage or minor injuries, some are much more severe. For the latest reporting year in Pennsylvania, there were:

  • 128,188 total traffic crashes reported
  • 80,612 injuries
  • 1,137 fatalities

We know that Pennsylvania takes impaired driving very seriously and law enforcement does what they can to cut down on instances of drink driving.

However, they cannot catch everyone who makes the irresponsible decision to drink and drive. For the same reporting year mentioned above, there were:

  • 10,346 alcohol-related crashes
  • These crashes were responsible for 26% of all traffic-related fatalities
  • 293 people were killed

When we look at the five years trends for alcohol-related crashes, we can see a downward trend with both incidents and fatalities. That is a good thing, but more must be done.

These crashes tend to be much worse than nonalcohol-related crashes due to higher-speeds at the time of impact as well as drunk drivers not slowing down before an impact.

Injuries from DUI-related crashes can be severe and we commonly help victims with the following:

  • Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Internal organ damage or internal bleeding
  • Broken and dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations or Amputations

The medical costs of treating these injuries can become tremendous but are only one facet of the overall costs. There are also hidden expenses to consider, including lost wages if a person cannot work, emotional and psychological damages, pain, and suffering, as well as long-term care for disabled victims. Do you know if your insurance will cover all of those expenses?
